Cat Brewer has an extensive background in communication, marketing, and public relations which allows her to engage in careers in academia, business and entertainment. An associate professor of communication studies for the past 17 years in California, Brewer begins teaching at the College of Southern Nevada in the Fall of 2017. She served as the Executive Director of Leadership Oakland for the Oakland Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce for 11 years all while acting as a marketing and promotion manager for local Bay Area jazz musicians being responsible for helping two albums enter and climb the national jazz charts. Brewer’s passion for communicating and educating led her to her current position as a documentary filmmaker.
Brewer loves taking on challenges – everything from Ironman triathlon’s, helping people overcome their fear of public speaking and producing her first documentary.
Teaching is Brewer’s passion and her film Sign the Show: Deaf Culture, Access & Entertainment will allow her a larger platform to educate audiences on the challenges Deaf and hard-of-hearing (HOH) individuals face when trying to access live entertainment with a focus on music, comedy and theatre that will hopefully bring about a cultural shift in access to entertainment.
